In such a situation, people are surprised to see the sudden change in the flag. Now, President Macron is receiving a lot of criticism. The French President’s Office issued a statement saying that the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, made this change in 1914 in memory of his WWII soldiers and his volunteers who participated in the Free French Revolution.
In 1976, then-President Valerie Giscard d’Estaing did it in light blue to harmonize with the color of the European Union flag. The Office of the President said that President Emmanuel Macron has chosen navy blue for the tricolor flags representing the sacrifices of the warriors of the French Revolution, World War I and World War II.
