The Jharkhand Police Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested three people, including a jawan from CRPF. They are accused of supplying arms to the banned CPI (Maoist) organization.

Jharkhand ATS SP Prashant Anand said in Ranchi on Tuesday that a gang had been arrested. It supplied weapons to banned organizations. Those arrested include CRPF jawan Avinash Kumar alias Chunnu Sharma. He comes from Imamganj in the Gaya district and is currently stationed in the 182nd Battalion of CRPF, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Included are his two associates, Rishi Kumar, a resident of Benipur Patna and Pankaj Kumar Singh, a resident of Simri village, Sakra Muzaffarpur.

Large amount of recovered weapons
Officials said police have recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the defendants. This recovery was made after the arrest of Anivash and Rishi with the help of the Bihar police in Patna. Jharkhand police arrested Pankaj Singh from Ranchi.

The jawan was absent from duty for four months.
ATS SP said Avinash had joined CRPF in 2011. He had been stationed in Pulwama since 2017, but was off duty for four months. He was previously posted to the 112th Latehar Battalion and the 204th Cobra Battalion in Jagdalpur.

Prima facie it appears that the defendants were in the process of becoming millionaires overnight. He has also confessed to supplying ammunition to Naxalites and criminals in the past. They were in contact with jailed gangsters and used social media accounts.

The An-47 rifle and the INSAS were also delivered in large numbers.
ATS SP Anand said the defendants said during questioning that they had also supplied AK-47 and INSAS rifles in large quantities to banned organizations. Of these, 450 rounds of cartridges have been recovered, which are used in INSAS rifles.
