New Delhi. In the current financial year so far (as of November 8), more than 98 lakh taxpayers have received an income tax refund of more than Rs 1.15 lakh crore. The Income Tax Department released this information on Wednesday. Of the reimbursed amount, 65.31 lakh ‘refunds’ of Rs 12,616.79 crore are for the assessment year 2021-22, the department said.
The Income Tax Department tweeted that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued refunds of Rs 1,15,917 crore to more than 98.90 lakh taxpayers between April 1, 2021 and November 8, 2021. In this, a refund of Rs 36,000 crore has been made to individual contributors of the 97.12 lakh income tax. While Rs 79,917 crore has been returned to corporate taxpayers in cases of 1.77 lakh.
Rs 2.38 crore income tax returns filed for the year 2020-21
So far, income tax returns of more than Rs 2.38 crore have been filed for the 2020-21 financial year. Of this, more than Rs 1.68 crore have been processed income tax returns (ITR), while refunds have been issued in more than 64 lakh cases. The Income Tax Department tweeted that the electronic income tax filing portal has received more than Rs 2.38 crore ITR for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
The department has also urged taxpayers to submit their ITRs for the 2020-21 financial year on the e-filing portal as soon as possible. The government has twice extended the due date for ITR filing for the 2020-21 financial year. The last date for filing income tax returns for taxpayers is December 31st.
