Eternals director Chloé Zhao has hinted at how the new heroes connect with the MCU mega-villain Thanos. Released on November 5, Marvel’s latest film is a key component in Phase 4. The film has an impressive cast that includes Angeline Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harrington.
Despite not being well received by all audiences, the film was praised for its stunning visuals, compelling performances, and expanding the mythology of the Marvel franchise. Since its worldwide release, it has also become Hollywood’s second-highest premiere this year.
The post-credit scene also came as a surprise for fans, as it featured Harry Styles as Eros, Thanos’ brother. This confirmed Styles’ entry into the Marvel franchise. Now, in an interview with Deadline, Eternals director Chloé Zhao has shed some light on these new characters and how they connect to the MCU in general. He also said that he had some plans to delve into the character of Harry.
“I love the idea of exploring an Eternal that is beyond Titan and who may have influenced Thanos over the years in the same way that Eternals influenced us Earthlings,” Chloé Zhao said while talking about the connection between the new Eternals heroes and Thanos. Fans were thrilled to see how Eros can provide retrospective context of the mega-villain’s role in the MCU and his rise in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Chloé Zhao also previously revealed that she had her eyes on Harry Styles for playing the role of Eros from the singer’s film, Dunkirk. “Harry as Eros was very much a package for me. After meeting him, I realized that he is that character, in the same way that I chose the rest of my cast. There is a lot of Eros in him. For me, if he says yes and Kevin says yes, then it’s an opportunity. And I’m very happy that they both did it, “he told the outlet.
