This year, Diwali was celebrated on the big screens with Rohit Shetty’s latest ‘Sooryavanshi’ starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. But this celebration took place in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, as a group of farmers had stopped their screening to protest against the three agricultural laws on Saturday.
It was pointed out that the reason for his displeasure was not the film in general, but the fact that the Housefull actor did not support his protest.
According to PTI reports, activists from the Bharti Kisan (Kadian) union are following the union’s district president, Swaram Dhga, who started the march from a local Shaheed Udham Singh Park to the Swaran Cinema, against the screening of Sooryavanshi . Protesters were also seen expressing their frustration by tearing up movie posters outside movie theaters.
When they forced the cinema hall authorities to stop the film’s screening, the group of frantic farmers claimed that they will not allow any Akshay Kumar films to be shown here until the agricultural laws passed by the central government are repealed.
For those who don’t know, farmers have been in riots against farm laws on Delhi’s borders for more than 11 months. According to farmers, these farm laws will take away their freedom to sell crops and give businesses more control. Several farmers have pitched tents on Delhi’s borders since November last year, urging the government to repeal the three agricultural laws: the Trade in Agricultural Products and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020, the Assurance Agreement of Farmer Prices (Empowerment and Protection) and Agricultural Services Law, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.
