Summary

While the central government has provided relief to the people by reducing the excise tax on gasoline and diesel, there was a crisis in front of the owners of gasoline pumps in Punjab. Three neighboring Punjab states have lowered their VAT rates. This has added to the difficulties. Gasoline and diesel are much more expensive in Punjab than in Chandigarh, Haryana, and Himachal. Now the people of Punjab are moving to these states.

listen to the news

The central government has made a gift by reducing the price of gasoline by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 10 across the country. This gift from the central government has overshadowed Punjab’s gas pump owners. In fact, due to the higher VAT on gasoline and diesel in Punjab, prices are higher here than in neighboring Himachal, Haryana and Chandigarh.

As a result, instead of taking oil from gas pumps adjacent to the border, people are moving to other states. If we talk about the price difference, then the gasoline in Chandigarh is cheaper at Rs 11.64 a liter compared to Punjab. It is cheaper at Rs 11.57 in Himachal and Rs 10.60 in Haryana.

If the Punjab government does not reduce its VAT soon, gasoline pumps adjacent to the borders will reach the brink of stagnation in the coming days. If the government does not make a decision on this matter soon, then its effect will also be seen on the Punjab treasury because most of the people have started moving to neighboring states instead of Punjab.

The central government had cut oil prices on Diwali night. After this relief, the price of gasoline in Punjab has risen to 105.87 rupees and that of diesel to 89.52 rupees per liter. In comparison, in Himachal Pradesh, gasoline is priced at Rs 79.22 per liter and gasoline at Rs 94.30 per liter. The Union Territory of Chandigarh has reduced VAT.

Here diesel costs Rs 80.90 per liter and gasoline Rs 94.23 per liter. The situation is similar in the neighboring state of Haryana. Here gasoline costs Rs 95.81 per liter and diesel Rs 87.02 per liter. In these three states, the price of oil has dropped compared to Punjab. Now people who live near the border of these states do not get fuel in Punjab.

Punjab gasoline pump sales fell 25%
Despite the reduction of oil prices by the central government, the price of oil in Punjab is the highest compared to neighboring states. About a thousand bombs are found on the borders of these states. In such situation, ordinary people do not take oil from Punjab because of cheap oil. People traveling from Ludhiana to Chandigarh are taking some oil too, because if they go to Chandigarh and fill up the car’s tank, then there is a saving of around 500 rupees. Because of this, Punjab’s petrol pump sales are experiencing a decline of up to 25 percent. While at the pump adjacent to the limit, there has been a decrease of up to 70 percent. If the Punjab government does not reduce VAT soon, petrol pump owners may go hungry. Raju Sharma, Sharma Ludhiana Service Station.

If VAT is not reduced, Punjab industry will not benefit
We welcome the decision to raise the price of oil, but now the government of Punjab will have to reduce VAT. Because if it doesn’t happen, our industry won’t do any good. Because the carriers will move to neighboring states to carry oil instead of Punjab in their vehicles. In such a situation, if the rental price does not go down, then where will our industry benefit from? The Punjab government should make an immediate decision and make the IVA work.
