In an interview with Simi Garewal in 1999, Jayalalithaa had made it clear that Aishwarya would be suitable to play her role in her biopic. “Aishwarya Rai would be suitable to play me in my youth, but then to play me as I am now (then) or probably will be in the future, I think it would be a bit difficult,” he said. .

Meanwhile, AIADMK leader and former minister D. Jayakumar said on Friday that Kangana’s protagonist Thalaivii has some factual errors. He said the film is well crafted, except for some scenes from the former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder and leader, the late MG Ramachandran, affectionately known as MGR, as well as in Jayalalithaa.

Citing a scene where MGR wanted to become a minister in the first DMK government led by CN Annadurai and was later blocked by Prime Minister M. Karunanidhi, Jayakumar said that MGR had never sought positions.

He said Annadurai wanted MGR to be appointed minister, but he himself refused and was subsequently appointed deputy director of the Small Savings Department, which was a new position. Jayakumar said that after Annadurai’s death in 1969, it was MGR who suggested the name Karunanidhi for the post of Chief Minister. Subsequently, MGR and Karunanidhi parted ways in 1972 and the former announced the formation of AIADMK.

Jayakumar also said that there were scenes showing Jayalalithaa making contact with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi without MGR’s knowledge, and said that this was not true and that she never went against their leader. He said there were also scenes where MGR was seen belittling Jaya, which was also not true.

The senior leader of AIADMK said that if these scenes are removed from the film, it would become a huge success, adding that he became nostalgic when watching the film.
