The fan base of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unlike anything ever seen in the movies before. No one had ever thought that the fandom of franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter or the Terminator would ever be rivaled, but then Marvel came with an unprecedented canon that crossed ethnicities, gender, geographic boundaries, age groups and any other type. demographics. . Unsurprisingly, all Marvel fans, even casual ones, were feeling bummed after Avengers: Infinity War, wondering what will happen next in the MCU and if he will ever again reach the heights he has created. What heat
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ticks all the boxes for a very good superhero movie: it tells an absorbing origin story with a fresh approach, it features interesting characters that you really want to root for, it has a strong emotional connection, it has an intimidating look. adversary for our heroes, it features jaw-dropping action scenes, the next thrill is always around the corner, and it ends things with a blast of climax. Destin Daniel Cretton’s directing has to do with a family fan, precisely what a movie of this type is supposed to be, William Pope’s camera work gets the job done, calling the visuals mesmerizing would be an understatement and the score The background, although not bright, is sufficient to set the correct tempo. Plus, all the actors play their part on the T, and we even get a welcome comic relief from Awkwafina and a hilarious guest appearance from Ben Kingsley. Plus, it’s a great pleasure to see legendary martial artist Michelle Yeoh after years in a major Hollywood commercial company, doing what she does best on screen.

What not
However, Shang-Chi isn’t without a few drawbacks – it’s a bit long on the tooth and the trio of editors could have easily cut 20 to 25 minutes (perhaps a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth). The pangs of nostalgia displayed by Shang and fixation on his father’s love and fixation on his backstories become too much in the second half. Conversely, a little backstory on the monster wouldn’t have hurt. Also, it’s hard to point out, but as captivating as the fantasy sequences are, they lack the magic and charm of similar movies like The NeverEnding Story, The Princess Bride, The Lord of the Rings, and Hobbit franchises, Clash. of the Titans (the 1981 original), Jason and the Argonauts, or the King Kong films of 1933 and 2005. I suppose no amount of clever CGI can make up for that mystical touch, which can only be achieved in the hands of great directors, with all due respect for Destin’s visual storytelling abilities here.

BL verdict
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gets Marvel Studios phase four off to an ideal start with heartbreaking fantasy gameplay, gives the MCU a lovely new superhero to cheer on, mostly due to how well Simu Liu plays. . he, and despite a few setbacks, is pretty much everything one could wish for in an original story, with extra points for balancing its large scale with genuine humor. Oh and yeah, in case you forget, stick around for the middle and after credits scenes. I go with 3.5 out of 5 stars.
