Ludo, Sherni, Soorarai Pottru, The Great Indian Kitchen Get Top Nominations In Multiple Categories



The Melbourne Indian Film Festival, one of the largest international Indian film festivals outside the country, has just announced its nominations for its annual awards ceremony. The festival, which is hosted by the Victorian government, is an annual festival held in Melbourne, Australia, showcasing the best of Indian and subcontinent films that year. In its twelfth edition to be held this month, IFFM 2021 has become both virtual and physical due to the global pandemic. With over 100 films screened during the event, it will be a celebration of diversity and the best of Indian cinema in all its forms. In addition to the screenings, the most anticipated ‘IFFM Awards Ceremony’ will also take place during the festival. All set for August 20, this year will see more names than ever join the IFFM Honor Roll as they have broadened their horizons with new nomination titles to celebrate the Indian film industry holistically. In addition to its recognition of the talent of all sections of cinema, this year the festival is launching three categories in the web program belt. Following the growing trend of OTT programs dominating entertainment content consumption, the festival will recognize Best Series, Best Performance in a series, each in the category of Actor and Actress. Consideration of these programs is limited to only those platforms that are available to the Australian public. Here’s what nominations will see for movies and content that were released between August 2020 and July 2021. This list of names includes extraordinary films from 2021 such as Ludo directed by Anurag Basu, the protagonist of Vidya Balan Sherni directed by Amit Masukar, Soorarai Pottru (Tamil) starring and produced by Suriya and directed by Sudha Kongara and God on the Balcony. , an Assamese film starring Harish Khanna and directed by Biswajeet Bora. This year’s Best Documentary features some of the most compelling stories, including Shut Up Sona, WOMB, About Mumma, and more. The winners of Best Picture, Best Independent Film, and Best Documentary each win a state-of-the-art camera from Black Magic Design, in addition to the award. Another highlight is that the winner of Best Film automatically gets a nomination in the Best Asian Film category at the prestigious annual AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards). Every year the festival celebrates this prestigious event in its physical form. However, in the wake of the current blockade of the Australian border, the award ceremony will be held virtually. The IFFM has been privileged to have some of the greatest talents in Australian cinema on the jury panel. This year’s festival jury boasts of jurors that will include names such as world award-winning film editor Jill Bilcock, one of Australia’s renowned actors Vince Colosimo and multi-award-winning director Geoffrey Wright.
