British star Idris Elba is currently awaiting the premiere of his upcoming film ‘The Suicide Squad’, which will hit theaters on August 5.
The actor says he wants people to fall in love again with film, which he labels as the “lifeblood” of the industry.
Speaking of the movie, which opens at a time when audiences are beginning to return to theaters.
What does Elba hope people will learn from this film, especially since it is being released in such exciting circumstances?
Elba, who will be seen playing the character of Bloodsport in the film based on the DC Universe, said: “I just hope people realize that the imagination is not dead, you know what I mean? Storytelling is the absolute lifeblood of what we do, that is why we are who we are as a species on this planet. So when you have all these great storytellers telling an incredibly imaginative and empathetic story, I think the audience really enjoys that. “
“This is why we love cinema. You go out and live it together. I want people to fall in love with cinema again. That really is the lifeblood of our industry. We make these incredible movies with a team that really only shows its full splendor when it is screened in theaters, ”added Elba.
The actor shared that the scale of the film, directed by James Gunn, is truly special.
Elba said: “And I really hope the audience will say, ‘Hey, man. I watched The Suicide Squad and it was amazing. It just reminded me why I love movies. ‘ The scale of this movie is really special. “
On working with Gunn on the sets, Elba shared: “Look, when the director is in every molecule of the script, when he makes every lighting decision and every wardrobe decision, that’s an artist. Artist with a capital A. And it’s very pedantic, but in a good way. You work in a specific way, you really know what you’re looking for: ‘If we don’t have it, we don’t have it and we’re going to keep going until we get it.’ That kind of things.”
Elba added: “And that was always great, because the more we did that, the more we understood exactly what the tone was. But it gives you a lot of license. John Cena and I had a lot of license to allow our characters to grow. “
The 48-year-old star said that when she read the script her character didn’t even have a name.
“It was like, ‘Okay, we still don’t know what we call it.’ So there was also a lot of room to grow while the movie was being made, ”he shared.
Elba also talked about her co-star John Cena, who plays Peacemaker in the film.
“John Cena is a gem of a man. He’s a good boy. I’ve always been a fan of his as a fighter and as an entertainer, and now as an actor. He is very good at what he does, but he is always learning. Very collaborative, very open, to a point where it’s almost a bit awkward how open he can be, ”Elba said.
Elba labeled Cena “an improvisational genius.”
