Today’s women often say, “Hold your head up, princess, your tiara is falling off.” It’s true because we don’t need men to lift us up. There is no longer a chase for prince charming because ‘who needs a prince when one can be a queen?’ Camila Cabello is making up her modern fairy tale, a tale every girl ‘should have’ grown up watching. Read on as we decode the Cinderella trailer for you.
A quick fact check for those in the know: Cinderella (2021) is an American romantic musical comedy. It is directed by Kay Cannon (the woman behind the much-loved series Pitch Perfect). It’s a twist on the original Disney tale, because this princess is all about chasing ‘her’ dreams (and she’s not a prince)!
Cinderella has a stellar cast that includes Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, Pierce Brosnan, James Corden, and others. For starters, the creators deserve a big round of applause for subtly covering topics like cheering on the LGBTQ community. Billy plays the role of a genderless fairy god, and it seems to be the highlight of the movie. The romantic comedy also marks a full-blown debut for Camila after appearing as herself in a couple of documentaries before. And wow, it seems like she’s been a professional in the business forever.
The trailer is a mix and match of important topics, entertaining with hilarious dialogue and witty lines. Additions like James Corden and his trademark joking style are sure to elevate the story. The trailer’s final dialogue about ‘crystal heels’ surely gets us excited for the ‘picture toh baki hai’ setting!
Camila Cabello plays an ambitious woman who wants to start her own design business. While meeting her prince charming, she wants to continue to pursue her career and be successful one day instead of just being a princess and “having a stagnant life, waving from a royal box.” There is the romance you may be looking for, but it is not ‘the end’.
Videography is truly real. Combined with expensive and elegant places and old costumes, it gives the perfect feeling of living in the world where monarchs and royal families really existed! The songs are another highlight and Camila’s humming, so that’s something to watch out for.
Cinderella strikes us as a long-awaited movie that witnesses more than just a beautiful woman with her stereotypical dreams. It empowers women to be more, more than anything that has limited her in the past. It’s a movie that would surely change my mind, at least that’s what the trailer makes us feel.
We are very excited to witness this protagonist of Camila Cabello. And you?
Cinderella launches September 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
