He amazed the judges with his Indian version of tacos: “daal bhaat” and “pollo jalfrezi” among many other delicacies. The winner of the thirteenth season of “MasterChef Australia”, Justin Narayan, has figured out why Indian flavors always reach the right taste buds.

What makes Indian flavors the center of attention on international TV shows?

“I think it’s super delicious. It is a tasty food and when you compare it to everything else, Indian food competes very well. That’s what I think, ”Justin Narayan, who hails from Perth, Western Australia and is of Indian descent, told IANS in a call from Down Under.

Since his mega victory, life has been a whirlwind for the 27-year-old shepherd, who is a first-generation Australian and a Fijian Indian.

“It sure has been a fun ride,” Justin Narayan said.

Right after being crowned the winner of the popular reality show in May, Narayan married his longtime girlfriend Esther Smoothy.

So, did he court her with his culinary talents?

“I’d like to think so,” he joked.

He sees Esther’s love of food as an “added bonus”.

“He definitely loves to eat, which is a huge benefit. She’s not a picky eater and is easily indulged when it comes to food, so it’s something I’ll keep trying… ”added Justin Narayan.

Talking about how from being a youth pastor to making a career in the kitchen, Justin revealed that entertainment and hospitality have been part of his culture growing up.

“Cooking is something that I have always liked. I have always liked cooking for people. Serving them while receiving entertainment and hospitality … is a huge part of my culture growing up. It is simply a natural expression and an extension of who I am and what I like to do… Passion flared in the youth and reached its zenith here, ”he said.

Thats not all. Beyond what most winners do, Narayan also aims to help a Mumbai-based NGO, Vision Rescue, founded by his friend Biju Thampy, pastor and motivational speaker. Thampy has been providing meals to children living in the slums of Mumbai.

“Yes, I am working with my friend Biju there. He is doing an amazing job and I just want to partner with him and continue to help the children of the slums of Mumbai. I had the opportunity to go see the work that he is doing and it is incredible. I think today it has distributed a million meals, which is quite incredible, ”says the young chef.

Justin Narayan wants to partner with the charity. “So I would love to partner with him in some way and he is not only feeding them, but also educating them. Hopefully giving them the tools in life to get out of the slums … It would be great to do so, ”he added.

What do you plan to do now?

“I am working to create food content. Enter the gastronomic entertainment space to make it a lot of fun. Just create content that hopefully connects with people and inspires them to cook and I’d love to keep learning as much as I can and get mentored by some chefs and hopefully land some kind of food business. That would be my goal, ”Justin Narayan said.

“MasterChef Australia 13” is available on Disney + Hotstar Premium.
