Akshay Kumar has been a pioneer in Bollywood, from nailing the action genre to breaking the stereotype that action heroes can’t do comedy. But, in recent years, it has been quietly ruling one particular genre in the industry.

Why silent? Because he has been mixing other subjects so well that one will have to look closely at his filmography over the past few years to understand how he has been exploring a particular genre more than the others. After that title, you know we are talking about biographies.

Biographical movies are generally confused with movies based on actual incidents, but there is a third sub-genre that is based on a true adventure, but not about a particular person. Like our first movie below:

Airlift – (Character: Ranjit Katyal)

Although a true story inspired this movie, its main character, Ranjit Katyal, was a mix of many people who helped make the evacuation story come true. Although not a straightforward biopic but (after Baby), this is where Akshay Kumar started to consider the ‘true stories’ route.

Rustom – (Character: Rustom Pavri)

This again is slightly different from Rustom as the story was real, it tried to portray what a particular character did in that story, but the name was changed. Based on the life of KM Nanavati, Akshau’s character name was Rustom Pavri in this movie.

PadMan (Character: Lakshmikant Chauhan)

A similar scenario to Rustom, true story, real character but changed the name. This movie was based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham. Lakshmikant Chauhan (Akshay Kumar) is the man who wants to create inexpensive pads for his wife and family.

Gold (Character: Tapan Das)

The story inspired by the life of the legendary Indian hockey player Kishan Lal, Akshay Kumar played the role of Tapan Das in Gold. Explore various nuances of the film, from comedy to romance to drama, and achieve each and every one of them.

Kesari (Character: Havildar Ishar Singh)

Based on the Battle of Saragarhi, which until now was unknown to most of us, Kesari does a wonderful job of informing us about this valiant impossible battle. This was by no means an easy role to play, but this powerhouse of talent makes sure to take the entire movie with him.

Prithviraj (Character: Prithviraj Chauhan)

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, “Prithviraj” is based on the life and heroism of King Prithviraj Chauhan. It stars Akshay in the lead role, while Manushi plays Sanyogita, the love of his life.

Below are the films that were not direct biopics but were based on real / semi-fictional incidents:
